A web search turned up this: Rebecca earned her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her Ph.D. subject in biochemistry was: Structure of Riboswitches. She was awarded a National Research Council Fellowship. Let’s go with that.

The quantum concept in The Cat in the Box is Schrödinger’s Cat.
