Francesians Finished

As I predicted, I finished proofreading and revising The Francesians by the end of the month. Now I get into the mechanical processes of bringing it into a publishable state. That means things like a title page, a table of contents and back matter. Then we come to the conversions to PDF and ePub so people can read them in the readers of their choice. PDF is pretty straightforward since LibreOffice can export directly to that format, and I don’t feel obliged to provide a “cover” for it. All I have to do is make sure it looks good and is formatted correctly. The ePub is a little trickier. There are many little details in the process that have to be just so to get the desired result. It’s finicky but we’re still on track to have it published before the end of summer, and that will be that for the Green Comet trilogy.

Update on Parasite Puppeteers

Parasite Puppeteers, book two in the Green Comet trilogy, has passed one thousand downloads from this website. That took approximately two years from the time I published it and made it available. It has been downloaded more than that in total, since it’s available elsewhere as well, but I thought it worthy of note that it has passed this nice round number here. There’s a little synchronicity in this event since I’m just about ready to publish book three, The Francesians.

By far the most popular format for downloading Parasite Puppeteers is ePub at 83%. PDF is second at 7.5%, with the reading and the text version bringing up the rear at 5% and 4.5% respectively. I guess it’s a good thing that I put so much effort into getting the ePub right. I wonder about the audio recording, though. Is it worth all that work when so few people take advantage of it? Maybe I should save myself the time and effort and just get started on the next book instead.

Almost There

I might have just done the second last pass of proofing and revising The Francesians. The changes I’m making are getting pretty trivial and that’s a good sign that there’s not much left to do. I figure one more week and I’ll be able to call it finished. Then it’s just a matter of the mechanics of preparing the various formats and creating the cover. I estimate that it will be ready for release by the end of this month.

It’s an odd combination of anticipation, impatience and a vague dread. Oh well, it’s not as bad as the first time.-)
