Elgin gets tired and succumbs to sleep, with a promise from Stanton to wake him if anything happens. Elgin and Plub learn more about each other, and about each other’s people. Elgin learns that, crude as the Makers might be, Plub seems to be a decent person.

Elgin breaks free and tries to rescue Fran.
This reading is chapter forty-five of Parasite Puppeteers, the second book in the Green Comet trilogy. Elgin is thrown into a cell, bare and empty. He explores it so Stanton can get the information back on the Ball. After speculating about his possible fate, we get to learn more about the Makers through Fran’s eyes. It’s not flattering to them. It seems their guiding principle is acquisition.

Plub and two escorts visit the Prime and the Ball.
After showing them around, Elgin and Fran plan to make a return visit, taking Scarface with them. Fran learns that the Makers do have creation myths, so she will have something to tell the Francesians back home. The Makers reveal their treachery.
