This reading is Quantum Man by Clifton Rumsey, from the collection Quantum Shorts. Its quantum themes are Hawking radiation, Planck’s constant, superposition and tunneling, among others. When the janitor at the Large Hadron Collider is struck by errant beams of protons, he becomes Quantum Man. Now he’s obliged to repeatedly save the world, aided by his untrustworthy sidekick, Quantum Cat.
