Green Comet

We’re down to the penultimate chapter in Green Comet, the first book in the Green Comet trilogy.

In Chapter Forty-six, Elgin and Minder are on their way to the get-together, which is being held in a room off the Square. Minder is regretting booking Elgin for the talk show the day before. He also might regret booking the get-together for Elgin and Fran’s old apartment. Will the memories be too painful? Everyone is there. The Five and some others. Elgin senses that there’s something going on, and he’s right. It’s something fantastic.

In chapter forty-five, we meet Minder again. He of the four arms and the lights in his face. After a breakfast of coffee and iceberry muffins, he takes Elgin to Stanton’s bubble, which has been recovered and restored to its original position. Stanton and Galatea appear to be an item. Minder comes to realize how deeply the separation from Frances is hurting Elgin. The universe looks big and cold.

In chapter forty-four, Fran has had to go down to the Center to go into deep hibernation for an indeterminate time. Elgin tried to find things to do to make being awake worthwhile, but it wasn’t working. He was relieved when his time was up and he could go down. He felt that he was getting older while she wasn’t. He got up for a while when Buzzard got back, but he would prefer to stay down until Fran is cured. He was miserable.
