This week’s reading is part four of Water Off a Black Dog’s Back by Kelly Link. It is part of a short story collection called Stranger Things Happen. It’s about seventeen and a half minutes long. Like other Okanagan Reader stories it is licensed Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike. You can find my review of the book here. Listen to this and other stories on the Audio page.

I really liked this story. It has an unexpected ending —just as many of Kelly’s short stories—, and I think the best thing about Kelly’s stories is the way she manages to constantly lead us to thinking: “okay, I know something surprising must happen, but I have no idea how she’s going to do it this time.”
This story is one of my favourites, along with “Louise’s Ghost”. Nice choice, Jim.
Best wishes,
David.
Thanks, David. I’m enjoying this project, and I’m enjoying revisiting KL’s stories, too. Have you contacted her about translating them?

I did write a Spanish version of Stranger Things Happens, but I
couldn’t contact Kelly back then in 2018. It is a great anthology,
really fun and inspiring. I can totally understand why you like
revisiting her stories.
I’ll keep an eye on your post for further stories like this.
Happy reading,
David
I just tried leaving a comment and it seems to be working now.
Here’s a test to see if it’s still working.
